Product updates stop
New TallyPrime releases stop being available to you. You stay frozen on the version installed the day TSS lapsed, and every improvement after that passes you by.
Most people discover their TSS has expired on the worst possible day - the morning an e-invoice will not generate, or the week a GST format changes and Tally has no update for it. Renewal itself takes minutes. This page explains what the subscription actually buys you, what stops the day it lapses, what it costs for each edition, and how to get it back on.
A TallyPrime perpetual licence and a TSS subscription are two different things, and confusing them is the source of almost every renewal argument we have ever had. The licence is a one-time purchase: you own the right to run TallyPrime, and that right does not expire. Tally Software Services is an annual subscription that keeps the software current and connected to the outside world.
Put simply: the licence is the car, TSS is the servicing and the fuel. Stop paying for TSS and the car is still yours and still parked outside - it just will not take you anywhere new. You keep the release you have, and you stop receiving the statutory updates that keep TallyPrime aligned with GST rules that change more often than anyone would like.
Every new perpetual licence includes the first year of TSS, so the first renewal notice arrives roughly twelve months after you bought. From then on it is an annual decision - and for most GST registered businesses it is not really a decision at all.
Nothing dramatic happens on screen. Things simply stop being available, one by one, and you tend to find out at the moment you need them.
New TallyPrime releases stop being available to you. You stay frozen on the version installed the day TSS lapsed, and every improvement after that passes you by.
This is the one that bites. When a GST rule, return format or rate schedule changes, the update that keeps TallyPrime aligned with it comes through TSS. Without it your software gradually falls out of step with the law.
Generating an IRN or an e-way bill from inside TallyPrime uses the connected service, and connected services need an active TSS. Businesses above the e-invoicing threshold notice this within a day.
Viewing your Tally reports from outside the office, and the multi-user remote access that comes with Gold, both depend on TSS being live.
If you sync data between a branch and head office, that stops on the expiry date. Businesses running more than one location usually find out the hard way.
Bank statement download and connected banking features are part of the subscription bundle, so they go quiet as well.
Statutory updates. GST rules, return formats and rate schedules change, and the update that keeps TallyPrime in step with them arrives through TSS. A business without an active subscription can carry on billing quite happily for months and only discover the gap at return filing time, when a format no longer matches what the portal expects. Fixing that under deadline pressure costs far more than the renewal did.
The second one is e-invoicing. If your turnover crosses the notified threshold, generating an IRN from inside TallyPrime needs the connected service, and the connected service needs TSS. There is no offline workaround that is pleasant. See how e-invoicing works in TallyPrime.
These are Tally's official annual renewal rates, exclusive of 18 percent GST. Your first year is included with a new perpetual licence, so renewal applies from year two onwards.

Renewing a subscription that has been lapsed for a long time can work out differently from an on-time renewal. We check your actual licence before quoting instead of quoting from a price list and correcting it later. Full TallyPrime price list
The whole thing can be done remotely. Most renewals are settled over WhatsApp the same day.
Your TallyPrime serial number is all we need to start. It is on the licence details inside the software, or on the original invoice.
We look up the edition, the expiry date and whether the subscription has already lapsed - because that can change what renewal costs.
The renewal amount plus 18 percent GST, in writing, before anything is processed. No hidden service fee bolted on afterwards.
Once you confirm, the renewal is applied against your licence and you receive a GST invoice in your business name.
We help you refresh the licence on your system and check that e-invoicing, remote access and the update path are all live again.
Both are possible. They are not equivalent, and it is worth knowing why before you let a renewal date slide.
| Renewed before expiry | Renewed after a lapse | |
|---|---|---|
| Continuity of updates | Unbroken - you never miss a statutory release | Gap in the middle, which you may need to catch up on |
| e-Invoicing and e-way bill | Never interrupted | Off for the whole lapsed period |
| Effort involved | A serial number and a confirmation | Licence status check first, sometimes a version upgrade after |
| Cost | The published annual renewal rate | Can differ once a licence has been out of subscription for a long stretch - we confirm before quoting |
| Risk at return filing | None from the software side | Format or rate mismatch surfaces under deadline pressure |
If your renewal is due soon and you are also weighing up more users, a move to the cloud or an add-on you have been putting off, it is worth doing all of it in one conversation. Compare Silver and Gold, look at Tally on Cloud or see what our support covers.
TSS stands for Tally Software Services. It is the annual subscription that sits alongside your TallyPrime licence and delivers product updates, statutory and GST updates, connected services such as e-invoicing and e-way bill, remote access and data synchronisation. The licence is what you own; TSS is what keeps it current and connected.
TallyPrime does not stop working and your data is never at risk - a perpetual licence keeps running. What stops is everything TSS delivers: product updates, statutory and GST updates, e-invoicing and e-way bill from inside Tally, remote access, data sync between locations and connected banking. You keep the version you have, frozen at that date.
No, it is optional. But if you are GST registered, generate e-invoices or e-way bills, or run more than one location, it stops being optional in practice - those features simply switch off. A business that only needs basic offline accounting can survive without it.
TSS renewal for TallyPrime Silver is ₹4,500 / year, for Gold ₹13,500 / year and for Server ₹27,000 / year, all exclusive of 18 percent GST. New perpetual licences include the first year, so your first renewal falls due a year after purchase.
Yes, lapsed subscriptions can be brought back. Tally's renewal terms for a licence that has been out of subscription for a long time can differ from a straightforward on-time renewal, so we check your specific licence before quoting rather than guessing. Send us the serial number and we will tell you exactly where you stand.
The expiry date is shown in TallyPrime's licence details on your own installation. If you are not sure where to look or someone else set the software up, send us your serial number and we will check the status for you - there is no charge for that.
Yes. The whole thing runs remotely - send the serial number over WhatsApp or email, approve the quote, and we process the renewal and send the GST invoice. Nobody needs to visit your office. If you are near Himmatnagar and prefer to do it in person, that works too.
An active TSS entitles you to the current release, so once renewal is applied you can download and install the latest TallyPrime. Upgrading an installation that has been left on an old version is worth doing carefully, with a backup taken first. We will do it with you if you would rather not do it alone.
It depends on the edition, which is itself a function of users. Silver is single user, Gold is unlimited users on a LAN and Server is for larger multi-user environments - each has its own renewal rate. Renewing does not change your edition; if you want more users, that is an upgrade, which we can quote separately.
Yes. A TallyPrime licence is yours, not the seller's, and any authorised partner can process the renewal. Plenty of our renewal customers first came to us because whoever sold them the software had stopped answering the phone.
No charge to find out where you stand. We look up the edition and expiry date, tell you plainly whether renewing is worth it for your situation, and quote the exact amount plus GST before anything is processed.
