Auto Email - Save Gmail App Password in TallyPrime
This add-on lets you save your Gmail App Password one time in TallyPrime. After it is saved, using Share and then E-mail to send invoices or reports applies the stored password automatically. Nobody has to type it again on each send.
The password is saved permanently on that computer. It is not stored inside the TDL file.
Gmail does not accept a normal login password for SMTP from an application. Create a 16-character App Password from your Google Account, under Security and then App passwords, with 2-Step Verification switched on. Do not use your ordinary Gmail password.
What the Auto Email add-on changes
- Stores the Gmail App Password once per computer, in TallyPrime's permanent store
- Applies the saved password automatically whenever you use Share and then E-mail
- Adds an EMail App Password screen to the Gateway of Tally, and an App Password option on the e-mail screen itself
- Lets you clear the saved password again from the same screen
Setting it up, once
- 1
Take a backup
Take a backup of your company data before loading any new TDL or add-on.
- 2
Load the TDL file
Open TallyPrime and open your company. Go to Gateway of Tally, then F1: Help, then TDL & Add-On, then F4: Manage Local TDLs. Set Load TDLs on Startup to Yes and specify the full path of auto-email.tdl as supplied by Plug & Play Computers. Accept, restart TallyPrime if prompted, and open the company again.
- 3
Open the EMail App Password screen
After the TDL is loaded, the Gateway of Tally shows a menu item called EMail App Password. Select it, or press Alt + P from the Gateway of Tally.
- 4
Enter the App Password and accept
On the Save Email App Password screen, check Status first - if nothing is saved it shows in red. Type or paste your Gmail App Password into the App Password field, where the characters appear as asterisks. Keep Clear saved password set to No, then press Ctrl + A to accept.
- 5
Confirm it saved
A message confirms that the password has been saved permanently. Reopening the screen shows Status as saved permanently on this system.
How to use it every day
The same save screen can also be opened directly from the e-mail screen using F4: App Password.
Your company mail settings - the From address and username, the server smtp.gmail.com, the port and the authentication setting - must already be correct in TallyPrime. This add-on supplies the password, not the rest of the configuration.
- 1Open the voucher or report you want to mail.
- 2Use Share and then E-mail as usual.
- 3Check the To address and the format - PDF is the usual choice.
- 4Send. The saved App Password is applied automatically, with nothing to type.

Notes
- Leaving the App Password field blank and accepting, when a password is already saved, keeps the existing one.
- To remove a saved password, set Clear saved password to Yes and accept.
- The password is stored per computer. Each machine that sends mail from Tally needs the App Password saved once.
Questions we get about this add-on
Which Tally version is required?
TallyPrime. Load the supplied auto-email.tdl file as described in the setup steps.
Why does Gmail need an App Password?
Gmail does not allow a normal login password to be used for SMTP from an application. Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google Account and create an App Password there.
Where is the password stored?
On that computer only, in TallyPrime's permanent store. It is not inside the TDL file.
Will other PCs work after setting it up once?
No. The App Password has to be saved once on each computer that sends email from Tally.
Tally keeps asking for the password. What do I check?
Open Gateway of Tally and then EMail App Password, enter the App Password again and accept. Also check the company mail username and server settings.
Authentication failed. What is wrong?
Use the Gmail App Password rather than your normal password, make sure the username is the full Gmail ID, and create a new App Password in Google if the old one was revoked.
The EMail App Password menu is not visible.
Confirm that auto-email.tdl is loaded under F1: Help, TDL & Add-On, F4, and restart TallyPrime.
